Keita Bates-Diop Conference Player Of The Year
Posted by: Steve - 03-01-2018, 04:50 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

KeitaBatesDiop

Just a mere year ago Keita Bates-Diop was part of a team that only managed 11th place in the Big Ten conference. This year, not only is he a member of a second place team, Ohio State, he is also player of the year for the Big Ten. This is a prestigious title given by media and coaches.

The stats Keita Bates-Diop put forth to win the title, an average of 8.9 rebounds and 19.2 points per game. These impressive stats were accumulated just one season after a leg injury. His points average would also be one of the reasons that the Buckeyes would finish second in the season. The Ohio State team finished the season with an equally impressive record of 24-7, 15-3.

This is not Keita Bates-Diop's only title. The native from Normal, Illinois has also been Player of the Week for the Big Ten conference four times. Other impressive statistics include a 35 point, career-high game against Illinois in early February. In the game against Michigan State, ranked number one, he would rack up 32 points. As a redshirt junior Bates-Diop should have two 30 point games, giving a hint to the current seasons success.

Taver Johnson Is Returning To Ohio State
Posted by: Steve - 02-21-2018, 06:14 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

TaverJohnson

It's official, Taver Johnson returning to Ohio State is a done deal. He is coming back to the Buckeyes after his stint as cornerbacks coach in 2007 until 2011. He will be taking the place of Kerry Coombs and leaving his position at Temple. Johnson was the defensive coordinator as well as the safeties coach for the Temple Owls.

The head coach for Ohio State, Urban Meyer, is glad to see Taver Johnson returning to the Buckeyes coaching staff. The two coaches have had a long standing friendship that dates back to their time together at Notre Dame in 1999. Taver's previous record with the Buckeyes explains Meyer's enthusiasm for Taver's return. Taver, a native Ohioan, would coach the 2008 winner of the Jim Thorpe Award, Malcolm Jenkins. He would go on to be a two-time Super Bowl champ. He also coached Chimdi Chekwa, the All-American cornerback of 2010.

Ohio State Beating Purdue Lands Them at No 8 in the AP Poll
Posted by: Steve - 02-14-2018, 03:28 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

ThePantagraph

Ohio State beats Purdue in the final minutes of the game last week leading the team to be ranked number 8 in the latest NCAAM AP Poll. The number three team in the nation, Purdue, saw their 19 game winning streak come to an end against Ohio State. This was due in part to the performance of junior, Keita Bates-Diop. His tip-in, with 2.8 seconds left on the clock, gave Ohio State their one point win against Purdue.

This would be the first Big Ten loss for Purdue. It would also put an end to their record winning streak. The epic 64-63 victory pushed the Buckeyes into a first place tie. The game, at times, seemed like a shoe-in for Purdue. At one point, during the second half of the game, Purdue led by a stout 14 points However, Ohio State proved they could handle the pressure whittling down this lead and several last-minute clutch plays.

Ohio State Coach Kerry Coombs Is On The Move
Posted by: Steve - 01-26-2018, 10:48 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

KerryCoombs

It is with a sad heart that Ohio State students and alumni say goodbye to Kerry Coombs. Coombs is on his way to join the NFL Tennessee Titans as one of their assistant coaches. This is according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports.

This is a pretty heavy hit since Coombs has been present since head coach Urban Meyer took over the Buckeyes. It has to feel like fans, and Meyer himself, are cutting off a piece of themselves.

In a span of five years, Coombs has managed to have four of his cornerbacks get drafted in the first round, and he is likely to be credited with at least one other in this year's draft. Denzel Ward is projected to go early in the first, and is easily in contention for the best corner this year. Ward, like many others have and will, sent out a tweet thanking Coombs for his dedication and knowledge he imparted.

Terry McLaurin Returns to Ohio State for 2018
Posted by: Steve - 01-20-2018, 04:48 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

TerryMcLaurin

Ohio had a deal of great news on Monday when their third and final  receiver Terry McLaurin tweeted his intent to return to school for another year. This puts Ohio State's receiving core back together for another year. Certainly with J. T. Barrett's departure this year it will help the new quarterback transition with the team to have those standout wide receivers to throw to. Couple this with junior Johnny Dixon making his exciting touchdown plays and the receivers at Ohio State will give defenders nightmares.

Alex Grinch: Ohio State Adds Another Coach To The Staff
Posted by: Steve - 01-11-2018, 01:45 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

AlexGrinch

Ohio State University is pleased to announce the addition of defensive coach Alex Grinch. Most recently, Grinch has been the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Washington State University. It had been talked about for a little while now, but much like the Raiders with Jon Gruden, they waited to make it official.

The Ohio State University Athletics Department made an announcement Monday afternoon stating that Grinch will be joining the team, but did not divulge what his exact role will be on the coaching staff.

Grinch will be coming home to roost with the Buckeyes. He grew up in Grove City, and also matriculated at Mount Union. He was a part of three National Championship teams and went 54-1 during that time. The fans will have something to be excited about watching what Grinch can do for the young men on the team.

USC To Maintain Its Tempo Offense Against The Ohio State Defense
Posted by: Steve - 12-29-2017, 05:43 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

SamDarnold

USC heads into the final game of 2017 with confidence, owing to their Pac-12 title win and a skilled quarterback in the lineup. A lot of attention has surrounded Sam Darnold due to the pending draft where he is considered a top pick. The No. 8 Trojans will be taking on No. 5 Ohio State with the same up-tempo style that they have approached each game with this season. With Darnold providing the speed to keep up this style of offense, USC managed an average of 489.5 yards a game in the Pac-12, the second most productive one.

Tee Martin, the offensive coordinator for USC, was quoted saying that they adopted the up-tempo style for the whole season and not just for a particular team. He said that the point of this offense was to stay dominant against their opponents regardless of the rotation rate. He is hoping that the same style will be effective when facing the Buckeyes tonight in the Cotton Bowl.

Ohio State will have to work hard to slow down the Trojans, especially with Darnold leading the rushing attack. The Buckeyes have gone through about eight defensive linemen, including defense ends Sam Hubbard, Jalyn Holmes, Tyquan Lewis, and Nick Bosa, the Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Big News For Buckeye Fans In DE Alex Williams
Posted by: Steve - 12-22-2017, 12:11 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

AlexWilliams

Ohio St Buckeyes got some great news and local talent for their 2018 recruiting class. Three star rated defensive end Alex Williams from Pickerington North High School has switched his commitment from West Virginia University to the Ohio State University. This announcement comes on the first of early signing days, but there are sure to be many more announcements to come in the next few exciting days ahead.

This is not totally official yet, and could still have a chance to go awry, but Williams school were the ones to put out the notice of young Mr. Williams intent. He is expected to make his signing official on Wednesday with Ohio State. This coming from a close source to Williams who confirmed it.

Alex Williams is quite the specimen at 6'7" and 250 pounds. He is ranked as the 32nd weak side defensive end in the nation and the 26th best player in the state of Ohio. He had been committed to West Virginia  since May, but it seems a visit from head coach Urban Meyer has changed his outlook on where he wants to play next year.

Quarter Back, Matthew Baldwin, Commits To The Ohio State Buckeyes
Posted by: Steve - 12-20-2017, 05:29 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

MatthewBaldwin

Matthew Baldwin, a Pro-Style Quarterback, committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes and it's Head Coach, Urban Meyer this week. Baldwin's football career started in high school at Lake Travis in Austin, Texas. Baldwin, like many young adults, changed his mind at the last minute.

Matthew Baldwin originally committed to attend and play for the Colorado State Rams. On November 30th, 2017 Baldwin withdrew his, Colorado State, letter of commitment. Shortly afterward, Baldwin announced his commitment to play for coach Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

On November 11th, Baldwin toured the Ohio State facilities during an "unofficial" visit to the campus. This visit happened to coincided with the rivalry game against Michigan State University. Matthew Baldwin enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes crush the Michigan State Spartans 48 to 3.

Baldwin made the trip to the Columbus campus with his mother. Mathew Baldwin and his mother left the campus visit happy with a scholarship offer from the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Ohio State Buckeyes Take Victory After Deficit
Posted by: Steve - 12-07-2017, 04:38 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

CJJackson

The Ohio State Buckeyes got the victory Monday night despite trailing the Michigan Wolverines by as much as 20 points in the first half. The brutal first half included seven turn overs by the Buckeyes. They would end the first half with a 13 point deficit against the Wolverines.

The second half started with the Buckeyes on fire sinking 10 of 13 first shots.  The Wolverines, who started the first half sinking 60 percent of their shots, cooled in the beginning of the second half missing the first four shots of the half. Ohio State would see their first time in the lead with a little over 12 minutes left in the game. C.J. Jackson and Keita Bates-Diop sank the free throws that would put the Buckeyes in the lead.
