Ohio State Gray Jerseys for Penn State
Posted by: Steve - 10-20-2017, 01:54 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

OhioStateGrayOhioStateGrayBack

Ohio State has released photos of the alternate gray uniform the Buckeyes will be wearing when they play Penn State on October 28th via Eleven Warriors. They have a week off prior to the big match-up at Ohio Stadium. Two years ago the OSU sported Black Uniforms against Penn State.

The template used for these jersey’s is Nike’s Vapor Untouchable, which is the same template used for the team’s Fiesta Bowl 1916 throwback uniforms. The numbers have a distinct wolf pattern resembling fur. Paints and helmet’s will also be gray for the game.

These jersey’s will be available October 23rd for $150.

Denzel Ward Vindicated On Maryland Targeting Call
Posted by: Steve - 10-13-2017, 03:12 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

DenzelWardMaryland

Big Ten has announced that junior DB Denzel Ward should not have been called for targeting in last weekends game against Maryland.

The play was sent to the Big Ten for review and the conference determined that there was no penalty. Ward hit Terrapins receiver Tavion Jacobs early in the first quarter of the game and was sent to the locker-room for the remainder of the match. He led with his shoulder into the chest of the opponent and did not make contact with the neck or head of the offensive player.

Every week the Buckeyes send film to the conference office for review of calls. This week it was determined that the call on –the-field was fine but that the replay review should have overturned the targeting call. Coach Urban Meyer was very frustrated and irate that such a mistake could be made during a game. The call this week had no impact on the overall outcome as Ohio State won easily 62-14, but in a close game could be a huge issue.

DJ Durkin progressed from a BGSU Graduate Assistant to the Maryland Head Coach
Posted by: Steve - 10-07-2017, 11:27 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

DJ Durkin

DJ Durkin got his start as an graduate assistant in 2001 under Urban Meyer at BGSU after playing outside linebacker for Bowling Green.

He also coached under Meyer at the University of Florida as a defensive coordinator from 2010 to 2014 before taking the Michigan defensive coordinator position in 2015.

In 2015, Durkin held Maryland to 105 yards in a Michigan 28-0 victory. The win made the Terrapins take notice and later offer him the head coaching job.

In 2016 Durkin took over the Maryland program after they had gone 5-11 in conference play over two years since joining the Big 10.

Cade Kacherski Becomes Preferred Walk-On At Ohio State
Posted by: Steve - 10-06-2017, 01:47 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

CadeKacherski

Cade Kacherski accepted an offer as a preferred walk-on at the Ohio State University in 2018 this week. The Dublin Jerome linebacker is a legacy recruit as his father played for the Buckeyes. He jumped at the opportunity when called Tuesday night.

Director of Player Personnel Mark Pantoni and Eron Hodges contacted Kacherski to offer him the opportunity.

He currently has offers from Indiana State , Brown and Western Illinois. Both academic an athletic.

Kacherski is 6’3” 190lbs and a leading tackler in Central Ohio this year with 63 tackles and 5 sacks.

Kacherski attended Junior Day in January and returned to Ohio State for a June camp this past summer. At the camp he got to work with linebackers coach Bill Davis.

  Ohio State Travels to Rutgers
Posted by: Steve - 10-02-2017, 06:59 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

ChrisAsh

Ohio State is favored to win this weekend on the road against Rutgers by 4 touchdowns. After three years of playing in the Big Ten, Rutgers has yet to beat the Buckeyes and Ohio State is loaded with talent once again. Ohio State players are taking the game seriously, as they should, heading into Piscataway Saturday for a 7:30pm kick off. The BigTen Network will broadcast the match.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Former Ohio State defensive coordinator, Chris Ash, is in his second season as the head coach of Rutgers.

Rutgers is 1-3 with one loss in league play to Nebraska. Rutgers was 0-9 last season in Big Ten play and lost in Columbus 58-0. Hopefully the game this weekend is more competitive.

Urban Meyer feels the defense of the Scarlet Knights is vastly improved to last season even with the team dropping a home game against Eastern Michigan earlier this year. But the statistics do support a greatly improved defense by Rutgers with the team in the top 30 for yards allowed in a game with only 298. The are stingy with the points (18.3 /game) and third down conversions allowed (30%).

The Scarlet Knights have switched to a 3-4 defense from a traditional 4-3. Allowing quick linebackers Kemoko Turay, Trevor Morris and Deonte Roberts to rush or play pass coverage. The team is in a better position to utilize the players that they have.

Rutgers lost their best cornerback for the season in Blessuan Austin last week against Nebraska, so that could a vulnerable spot for the Buckeyes go after this weekend.

Finally, Rutgers quarterback Kyle Bolin has struggled with 3 touchdowns and 6 interceptions this year so far. And there are no weapons on offense except for Janarion Grant to worry about.

Small Guard Luther Muhammad Commits to Ohio State
Posted by: Steve - 09-28-2017, 01:29 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

LutherMuhammad

2018 New Jersey small guard Luther Muhammad committed to the Ohio State basketball team and Chris Holtmann last week. He was one of four recruits to commit to the Buckeyes during the week that took their 2018 team from non-existent to one of the better teams in the country. Holtmann has had trouble getting players from Ohio  due to the late start he walked into. But his ability to pull players from around the country is something that should benefit the Buckeye program for years.

Luther Muhammad

Muhammad, 6’4” 185 lbs.,  comes from Jersey City New Jersey Hudson Catholic. He is  a considered a four star prospect and the 89th best player in the country.

Ohio State also picked up Jaedon LeDee and Duane Washington Jr. prior to getting the commitment from Muhammad.

Muhammad’s top five included Virginia, West Virginia, Xavier, Ohio State and St John’s. He visited OSU on September 9th for the Oklahoma game, the same weekend LeDee was in Columbus. Holtmann also made an in-home visit on the 18th of September.

Justin Ahrens Returns Home To The OSU Basketball Program
Posted by: Steve - 09-28-2017, 01:29 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Justin Ahrens

Justin Ahrens has rejoined the class of 2018 for Ohio State after de-committing when Thad Matta was released.

Justin Ahrens

Ahrens is a three star wing player from Versailles Ohio who had opened up his recruiting after Thad Matta was let go by Ohio State but has now re-committed to Chris Hermann and the new coaching staff.

He received a new offer from Chris Hermann in July, shortly after his hiring.

Recently he had a top 6 of Michigan, Ohio State, Xavier, Purdue, Dayton and Vanderbilt.

At 6-5 and 181 lbs., the small forward turned down Michigan and Xavier, the two teams that had seemed to be in the lead prior to his announcement. He visited Michigan and Xavier in August and then saw Ohio State football play UNLV in the Ohio Stadium this past weekend and committed on Sunday.

Ohio State Buckeyes v the UNLV Rebels
Posted by: Steve - 09-24-2017, 07:46 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Ohio State is looking to get warmed up for conference play against UNLV (the Rebels) this Saturday in The HorseShoe, noon on the BigTen Network.

The first three games of the season for the Buckeyes provided more stressful than pre-season play is supposed to. Indiana gave them trouble on the road with some excellent passing, a quick pace, and big talented receivers. Oklahoma came into Columbus and outplayed them in a number of ways. And then Army, with its unique running style, provided a challenge in preparation.

UNLV

The Rebels or the Mountain West (1-1) enter the game a 40 point underdog and haven’t shown much to this point this year. Plus they play a more traditional style of offense.

UNLV did win the second game of the season against Idaho 44-16 but looked really bad against Howard, when they were considered a 45 point favorite. UNLV comes into the game with some talent on offense in wide receiver Devonte Boyd, quarterback Armani Rogers, and tailback Lexington Thomas.

Ohio State Continues Focus on Offense Heading Into Army Game
Posted by: Steve - 09-16-2017, 10:43 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Kevin_Wilson_Coach

During the weekly press conference with head coach Urban Meyer and offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, reporters wanted to know what was wrong with the Buckeye offense. Meyer stated that the team will continue to stay balanced between passing and running and does not plan to feature the backs more on Saturday. He has mentioned to the team how the 2014 squad lost their second game to Virginia Tech but was able to rebound and win out.

Kevin Wilson

Wilson is the primary play caller this year and Meyer feels that only one quarter, the 2nd against Indiana, was up to the level the team needs to be at.

A lot was expected when Wilson replaced Tim Beck and Ed Warinner this year at the head of the offense. Ryan Day, a Chip Kelley student, was also added during the off-season, coming on board from the NFL for additional offensive game planning.

But the blame from fans hasn’t ended with the coach, the quarterback and the wide receivers have also heard it from the fans who expect them to be making more big plays on the field.

Wilson feels that he can make quarterback JT Barrett look better by putting him into position to make plays. He also felt play calling was the issue with the receivers and not getting separation as some have felt.

Ohio State Gets Junior College Tackle Antwuan Jackson
Posted by: Steve - 09-13-2017, 10:51 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

AntwuanJackson

The 2018 recruiting class for Ohio State is stacking up to be another top 2 class for Urban Meyer and the Buckeye coaches. With the addition of Junior College standout, tackle Antwuan Jackson, they now rank first nationally according to many ranking services.

The loss to Oklahoma has decreased OSU’s ability to get big name recruits as they grabbed Jackson on Tuesday, three days after the home loss.

Long Road to Ohio State

Jackson was recruiting by the Buckeyes in 2016 but selected Auburn. He left Auburn after one year as a redshirt and played for Blinn College last season. He re-entered recruitment as one of the best in the country at this position and Ohio State offered him a scholarship again. He committed two weeks after receiving the offer.

Already into the season at Blinn, he has 15 tackles and 3 sacks in 2 games.

Blinn College was also the school of current Ohio State corner Kendall Sheffield. So there is some familiarity between the coaches at the colleges.

Jackson joins Taron Vincent from Bradenton Florida as two defensive tackles in the class of 2018.
