  Andre Wesson Becomes A Buckeye
Posted by: Steve - 07-03-2016, 03:09 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Ohio State signs Andre Wesson; Andre Wesson has officially signed his letter-of-intent to become an Ohio State Buckeye, choosing them over Richmond and Butler.

Talent runs in the family of the 6-7 Wesson with his brother being the 6-10, 290 lbs., Kaleb Wesson. In fact the brothers' father is Keith Wesson - a former Buckeye himself in the mid-1980s.

Andre's prospects were boosted by a stellar senior year as part of the Westerville South team that won the Division 1 State championship with a 26-4 season. He was honored with being voted player of the year in the Ohio Capital Conference after a game average of 17.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists.

Ohio State Buckeyes Land Offensive Lineman Wyatt Davis
Posted by: Steve - 07-03-2016, 03:09 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Many recruiting followers were surprised when Ohio State stopped their efforts for the in-state recruit, Joel Honigford, who currently held 29 offers from various other schools.

It became clear this week, however, when the Buckeyes announced that they had received a commitment from OL Wyatt Davis from St. Bosco High in Bellflower, Ca. This commitment surprised many who had not anticipated this news.

Davis, who is a 5-star recruiting prospect, listed his top recruiting school considerations 2 months ago and Ohio State was not included or mentioned by him as a school he was considering.

Last weekend, however, the situation changed quickly after Davis took a visit to Ohio State and the Buckeyes were suddenly included in his new Top-8 list.

Non-conference Schedule

The 2016-17 non-conference schedule for Ohio State Basketball was released on Tuesday.

The Ohio State Basketball squad has the entire starting lineup returning from the 2015-16 season. Last year's disappointing performance culminated in an NIT invite. This year's team will have the opportunity to avenge 2 of their losses in non-conference suffered last season.

Ohio State's non-conference schedule has some of the same teams from last year. For the second year in a row, the Bucks face Virginia from the Big Ten/ACC challenge. They travel to play the Cavaliers on the 30Th of November. Additionally, they host Connecticut on Dec. 10Th, which is the second game of a home-and-home contest against the UConn Huskies.

Evan Turner's Jersey Hung At The Jerome Schottenstein Center
Posted by: Steve - 05-22-2016, 12:33 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

History was made on Tuesday night as Evan Turner became the fifth ex-Buckeye to have his jersey hoisted into the rafters at the Jerome Schottenstein Center. It joins John Havlicek's, John Lucas's, Gary Bradds's, and Jim Jackson's in receiving this honor. The ceremony took place as the Buckeyes played (and beat) the Michigan Wolverines, a very fitting opponent to celebrate Turner's college career. Indeed, his dramatic buzzer-beating three-pointer in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Big Ten Tournament is perhaps the defining moment of the 2010 National Player of the Year's Buckeyes career.

You might think that the ideal opponent was planned, but it was not. Turner currently plays for the NBA's Boston Celtics, meaning that he could only personally attend the ceremony during the NBA All-Star Break. The Buckeyes only had one home game during the NBA break, and it was the luck of the draw that it happened to be against Michigan.

10 Ohio State Players Drafted in the First Three Rounds of the NFL Draft
Posted by: Steve - 05-05-2016, 11:55 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

All ten players end up in places where they can make immediate impacts and getting some playing time. Joey Bosa was picked up by San Diego (Pick 3), first of the Buckeyes in the draft. He doesn’t necessarily fit the scheme the Charges play on defensive but was the best player on the board and is very versatile, can play at every position across the line. The highest drafted player out of OSU since Orlando Pace as the first pick.

Ezekiel Elliot (Pick 4) was selected by Dallas in the first round. A good pick for the Cowboys. He is already considered the top fantasy player coming out of the draft as Dallas has a great offensive line and some good receivers to take pressure off the running back. Could go for 1000 yards his rookie year.

Eli Apple went a little higher than expected, tenth overall to the Giants. Corners are a big thing for teams to pick early in the draft. In a couple of years he could very easily be the teams top defensive back. Apple’s mom quickly took to Twitter to tell all the young ladies to stop throwing themselves at her son. Good stuff.

Taylor Decker gets drafted by the Lions in a rebuilding year. A significant piece of their new offensive line. He was selected the 16th overall, that’s 4 Buckeyes already and the draft is just getting warmed up.

  Ohio State's 2016 Running Game
Posted by: Steve - 03-27-2016, 12:21 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

In terms of the 2016 season, Urban Meyer stated that he sees similarities between his Ohio State rushing game and the one that he had in Gainesville. He mentioned talented Ohio State Footfall players such as Dontre Wilson, Mike Weber, Bri'onte Dunn and Curtis Samuel.

He says that Zeke Elliott and Carlos were present the last couple of years, but players like them were not on his team in Gainesville. He had to create a running strategy back then, so he is thinking along those lines when it comes to the 2016 season.

He claims that all of this is doable since Elliott is going to be a first round NFL Draft pick. Keep in mind that Hyde plays for the San Francisco 49ers as a running back. Meyers says that Ohio State's spring roster doesn't have NFL quality rushing backs at this point in time. But anything could happen. (Ad: H&R Block Tax Filing with http://2015Tax.org)

Ohio State Works Hard To Keep Haskell Garrett
Posted by: Steve - 03-20-2016, 12:28 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Haskell Garrett

Recently, Ohio State received a commitment from Haskell Garrett to play football as a top defensive tackle prospect; however, it will take hard work to have him stick around.

Signing day of 2016 has now come and gone, and all of the remaining headlines turn to 2017 and 2018 recruitment. The Ohio State class of 2017, in addition to the powerful recruiting class of this year, is considered to be one of the highest recruitment impacts from around the country. To help aid in this endeavor, the Ohio State Buckeyes were able to accomplish a key commitment on Tuesday.

Haskell Garrett, one of the most elite and powerful defensive tackle prospects in the United States, stated his commitment to Ohio State this past Tuesday morning. Coming from renowned Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, Garrett has roots from Hawaii and displays an immense stature at 6ft 2in tall, weighing in at about 280 pounds. For such an immense defensive tackle, Garrett displays an incredible amount of speed on the field that takes him a notch above the remaining prospects in the US.   JK Dobbins Commits To The Ohio State Buckeyes
Posted by: Steve - 03-11-2016, 12:41 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

JK Dobbins

JK Dobbins, the all-purpose back from La Grange, TX has committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Although this announcement was a surprise to many, Dobbins confirmed the commitment on his Twitter page.

Most people thought that this 5'10 200 pound high school player was going to commit to the Texas Longhorns or either the Oklahoma Sooners. So, when it comes to committing to the Ohio Buckeyes, no one saw this coming. However, Dobbins had already said that he was making an early decision. Also, the head coach Urban Meyer did not offer JK Dobbins until a couple of weeks ago. This is even stranger to say he hasn't made recent trips to Columbus. His last known trip to Columbus was back in May.

Big Day for Buckeyes at Combine
Posted by: Steve - 03-03-2016, 05:29 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

It's that time of year again. The time when college football players are analyzed and critiqued at every angle to determine if they are ready for the NFL. The 2016 NFL Combine saw a number of players from across the nation including the Ohio State University. A total of fourteen Ohio State players got an invite to the combine(more than any other school in the nation). Of those fourteen, there are a few locks to be drafted in April and a number of question marks.

There are three solid NFL draft locks, following the 2016 combine. Defensive linemen Joey Bosa figures to go early in the first round, possibly even number 1 with the Titans. Bosa actually made a request to include linebacker drills (a request that was later denied). At 6' 6" and 269 pounds Bosa ran a 4.86 40 with a 1.69 split at 10 yards. While not outstanding, the marks are solid. With 26.0 sacks over three Ohio State seasons he is a lock to be drafted.
