Ohio State Football Depth Chart 2017–Oklahoma
Posted by: Steve - 09-06-2017, 05:52 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

A few changes in the depth chart for the Buckeyes this week as they go up against #7 ranked Oklahoma at home. Again Ohio State will be featured on ESPN College GameDay. Mike Weber, 2016 Big 10 Freshman of the Year, is back and the plan is to split carries for the running backs between Weber and break-out freshman JK Dobbins (181 yards against Indiana). Hopefully Antonio Williams will also get some carries after a great game against Indiana.

A couple of line backers have been added to the third string including sophomore Justin Hilliard and freshman Pete Werner.

Kickoff is at 7:30pm on ABC.

Indiana Sellout And 10 Thousand to Hurricane Harvey Relief
Posted by: Steve - 09-01-2017, 09:31 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Having a in-conference game start the season is an odd happening but with the game being played during prime-time on ESPN and Indiana’s Memorial Stadium being within driving distance from Columbus Ohio, it shouldn’t be any surprise that the stadium has sold-out for the season opener tonight. Ohio State enters the game ranked 2nd in the country. Capacity for the stadium is a little less than half of what can be held at Ohio State’s stadium, 52,929.

The last time Indiana sold out their stadium was October 3rd, 2015 against Ohio State once again. The Buckeyes won that game 34-27.

Ohio State comes into the 2017 season with a new offensive coordinator, Kevin Wilson, who was released from Indiana program last year.

WR LChristian Smith Committed to Ohio State
Posted by: Steve - 08-30-2017, 04:44 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Huber Heights Wayne Wide Receiver L’Christian (Blue) Smith committed to Ohio State this past week over offers from many top programs including Cincinnati, Kentucky, Michigan, Alabama, and Tennessee. Cincinnati and Kentucky were the other two finalist but Ohio State had always been his dream school. He also has a teammate, Alex Reigelsperger, headed to the Wildcats, who offered him first so the decision was difficult. UK has brought in 36 recruits from Ohio after picking up a couple of coaches from the Youngstown area five years ago.

The Announcement

Smith made the announcement prior to a televised game on ESPN against Gibsonia Pennsylvania Pine-Richland. (Wayne lost 41-0)

The Camp That Set Everything in Motion

Early in the Spring, Smith didn’t feel the Buckeyes were making him a priority and felt they would play him at Tight End if he did enroll in the program. But Smith was able to talk with Urban Meyer about his plans and became confortable in what the Buckeyes had to offer the in-state prospect.

He became comfortable with the program and the coaching staff during a camp visit in June. Depending on his size during his career at Ohio State he might play wide receiver but he might also play the h-back position. He is currently 6’6” and 205 lbs., a big target. No plans to move him to Tight End when he gets to Columbus.

Running Back JK Dobbins Could See Many Touches In Ohio State Opener
Posted by: Steve - 08-23-2017, 03:14 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

True freshman JK Dobbins has sprinted ahead of the depth chart for the Buckeyes at running back this fall and might get to play quite a bit against Indiana (August 31st) in the opener with Mike Weber sidelined with a hamstring issue or with him in the game. With Mike Weber and Demario McCall already set to provide depth at running back in the Spring, Dobbins entered the team early from high school and began to show what he is capable of. Now in the fall, he is showing not only great talent but the ability to block well and the understand the plays that Ohio State wants to run this year.

Quarterback Joe Burrow Breaks Hand Bone
Posted by: Steve - 08-23-2017, 03:14 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Joe Burrow, backup quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes, will miss the beginning of the 2017 season due to a broken bone in his throwing hand. The Athens Ohio redshirted sophomore broke the bone in practice performing a fake handoff early this week and had surgery to set the bone yesterday. He will miss the first games of the season, his return date is uncertain.

Burrow played in 5 games last year for the Buckeyes, competing 22 passes for 226 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran for one score. Burrow appeared to be the player that could come into a game if JT Barrett went down with an injury and manage the remainder due to his experience. Now the Buckeyes will need to look to Dwayne Haskins for all snaps without Barrett.

2014 Season

The quarterbacks are always aware that their time might come in the next game depending on injury. With 2014 as a reminder of this when Braxton Miller, JT Barrett, and Cardale Jones all got time as the first string quarterback on the way to the National Championship. Miller, going out in the preseason with a shoulder issue. JT Barrett, breaking an ankle against Michigan. And Jones winning the National Title after three post-season starts.

Ohio State Basketball Increases Roster For The Fall
Posted by: Steve - 08-20-2017, 04:23 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Ohio State Basketball has added two additional local walk-ons to their roster for this upcoming season, increasing the count to 14.

Chris Holtmann has secured the services of Air Force transfer Danny Hummer and Bishop Watterson recruit Matt Lehmann. Hummer played high school ball for Upper Arlington near Columbus.

Ohio State Pursuing 2018 Point Guard Noah Locke
Posted by: Steve - 08-18-2017, 10:06 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Ohio State is looking to add a highly ranked point guard to their 2018 class with Noah Locke from Owings Mills Maryland. Locke is a 6’2” guard rated the 15th best at his position in the country. He will visit the Buckeyes on August 22nd with previous visits going to Michigan, Florida, Xavier and Providence. Kansas was also looking to sign Locke but did not get an official visit from him. Michigan has only one scholarship open for the 2018 class and is hosting a number of other recruits. Ohio State is in great need of a point guard and has a thin roster at this time, would be a good spot for Locke.

Ohio State Football Walk-Ons Given Scholarships
Posted by: Steve - 08-17-2017, 02:47 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Ohio State football walk-ons Elijaah Goins and Zach Turnure both where given senior season scholarships this week. The actual event happened after practice on Saturday with Urban Meyer making the announcement to the whole team. This was very similar to last season when Joe Burger and Craig Fada were put on scholarship after three years of playing and a red-shirt freshman year. Burger and Fada were special teams standouts and that is the same role Goins and Turnure have now.

Goins, from Concord NC, has had a long journey starting at Safety, switching to Corner Back, and ending up as a Receiver. He appeared in 12 games last year for OSU. He called his mother quickly after practice to tell her about the scholarship. He plans to continue working part-time at CVS as he pursues a pharmacy degree.

Justin Ahrens Considering Ohio State Again
Posted by: Steve - 08-15-2017, 02:16 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Once an Ohio State verbal commitment to play basketball for Thad Matta and Ohio State, Versailles Ohio standout Justin Ahrens has the Buckeyes in his top 6 for consideration. In fact, Ahrens was on campus this week visiting with new head coach Chris Holtmann.

Small Forward Justin Ahrens had been a commitment to the Ohio State University for almost a year before news broke that Thad Matta was being let go. His teammate Darius Bazley was also set to join Matta in 2018 and become a part of the rebuilding that needed to be done. Bazley actually jumped ship earlier as the Buckeyes struggled in Big 10 play and did not make the post-season last year. But Ahrens waited until the coaching change to start looking around. Now he has a new scholarship offer from former Butler coach Chris Holtmann and is considering OSU in a recent top 6 that he provided to reporters. Holtmann has jumped on the recruiting trail and been able to bring in some good talent, ranking the current class atop the Big Ten.
