Why Georgia Is Not Enough For DE Brenton Cox
Posted by: Steve - 05-16-2017, 10:14 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

DE Brenton Cox has broken Georgian hearts by signing with Ohio State. The tears are still fresh and haven't dried but that's the way of the world. It was unknown, however, if DE Brenton Cox was given an offer he couldn't refuse as in money talks. Indications are that he loves the Buckeyes and the recruiting class they are putting together.

For in the world where DE Brenton Cox swims, there are two forces at play. The Dark Side means money changes everything. The Force, however, wins over when someone with the caliber of DE Brenton Cox chooses such things as promises, future, respect, and potential.

It's not all about the money, no one has heard DE Brenton Cox say just yet. So the rest of world can only guess. DE Brenton Cox, who's a defensive end, is ranked 19 in the 2018 class. Whether he joins The Force or The Dark Side in selecting Ohio, DE Brenton Cox is destined for the Big Ten.

Trevor Thompson Aiming For NBA Draft
Posted by: Steve - 04-20-2017, 03:57 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Trevor Thompson

Trevor Thompson is an Indianapolis native who played his first full season as a redshirt sophomore at Ohio State. Last year, Thompson opted to explore the NBA draft when the season ended, while also retaining his college eligibility. It seems that he will be trying again this year. However, he will return to Ohio State if the NBA draft is not favorable.

Ryan Thompson, his father, shared with The Dispatch in a telephone interview that the situation is different because Trevor's performance was much better this year which proves that he can play at the NBA level. For the 2015-2016 season, Trevor Thompson averages per game were 5.1 rebounds, 17.9 minutes and 6.5 points. However, when he returned to the Buckeyes, freshman Micah Potter took the starting center position during fall camp. Thompson was able to start after Potter was injured. After, Thompson achieved the title of honorable mention all-Big Ten because of his improved average game stats of 9.2 rebounds, 23 minutes and 10.6 points.

Dante Booker Looks Set To Impress
Posted by: Steve - 04-07-2017, 12:11 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Dante Booker

Staring his fourth season with the Buckeyes, Dante Booker may finally receive the opportunity to strut his stuff.

Like all teams, there are a few questions about Ohio State going into the 2017 season.

Will the team cope with losing three players in the secondary, given that this is the second year running it has happened? Will new manager Kevin Wilson get the offense back to the former glory of its' 2014 national championship campaign? Will the Buckeyes go back to College Football Playoffs on the third occasion in four years?

These questions are fairly general, and relate to the overall shape of Ohio State in 2017. Until the football begins, we will not find out the answers.

OSU Women's Basketball Team Speeds Toward The NCAA Sweet 16
Posted by: Steve - 03-22-2017, 01:58 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

When OSU beat Kentucky 82-68 in women's hoops on Sunday, their victory ensured that they're headed to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second year in a row. The game was also a huge victory for OSU's star junior guard Kelsey Mitchell, who became the Big Ten's all-time career three-point leader.

Many athletes would have considered the achievement quite impressive in its own right, but Mitchell seems focused solely on the tournament. When pressed for an answer about what this record means to her, Mitchell reminded journalists that the tournament is about acting as a cohesive team. She considers herself more of a team player than an individual.

Mitchell also invoked a popular phrase when she told reporters that she wants to survive and advance before thinking about anything else. Teams around the Big Ten use this refrain to remind themselves that you have to survive each individual game if you want to make it to the Big Dance.

Billy Price Is The New Ohio State Center
Posted by: Steve - 03-01-2017, 12:35 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Billy Price is now the Ohio State's Center and is one of the four returning starters for the team. Clemson beat Ohio State 31-0 at the Fiesta Bowl during the College Football Playoff. Quarterback J.T. Barrett was helpless with Clelin Ferrell, Carlos Watkins and Christian Wilkins on the field for the other team.

Barrett had two interceptions but was sacked three times by the Tigers. Michael Jordan, the left guard injured his ankle in the first quarter, and was replaced by Demetrius Knox. Jordan is returning in 2017 along with Jamarco Jones, left tackle and Isaiah Prince, right tackle. Billy Price, the four-year starter, is also to return as team captain replacing Pat Elflein who is going to the NFL. Although the Buckeyes have four returning starters from the previous season, Price's move to center leaves a void. However, Greg Studrawa does have some options to fill Price's old spot on the offensive line.

Joey Bosa Defensive Rookie Of Year
Posted by: Steve - 02-07-2017, 07:03 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Not surprising hardly anyone, Joey Bosa became the Defensive Rookie of the Year for the NFL in an awards ceremony on Saturday night held in Houston. Joey Bosa had a spectacular year in his rookie season with 10.5 sacks in only 12 games. The season was curtailed for him at one point because of conflicts in his contract with the San Diego Chargers. However, once he got back on the field, he proved himself among the best defensive players in the NFL.

Amazingly, Joey Bosa managed six of the sacks in the first five NFL games, remaining strong throughout the season. He showed especial prowess during a game against the Falcons late in the season when he sacked Matt Ryan two times, boosting the Chargers into a overtime win of 33-30.

Ohio States Football 2017 Recruiting Class
Posted by: Steve - 02-02-2017, 05:37 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Ohio State just signed one of its best classes in its history for the upcoming 2017 year. Alabama out-ranked OSU in most national recruiting rankings, but Ohio State likes its class of 21 recruits this year.

CB Jeffrey Okudah from Grande Prairie Texas is the best safety in the country and rated five stars. Some also consider Okudah the best cornerback with his exceptional cover skills. He went to the Army All American Bowl.

DE Chase Young from Hyattsville Maryland is another 5 star prospect. He is a top 10 overall recruit and a top 2 defensive end. He played in the Army All American Bowl.

OLB Baron Browning from Kennedale Texas is a 5 star recruit and considered the best outside linebacker in the country. He was the 2016 High School Butkus Award winner and played in the Army All American Bowl.

CB Shaun Wade from Jacksonville Florida is a 5 star recruit who has already enrolled at Ohio State. Won the award for the 2017 Lockheed Martin Defensive Back of the Year. And also won the USA Today Defensive Player of the Year award. He played in the Army All American Bowl.

Ohio State Womens Basketball vs Minnesota
Posted by: Steve - 01-31-2017, 08:34 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

The Ohio State Basketball team, the Buckeyes, have improved their season performance to 18-5. They beat Minnesota's Golden Gophers 88-76 on Thursday evening.

The opposing guard, Carlie Wagner from the Golden Gophers scored 34 points during that game, which is starting to reflect a trend this season. The Buckeyes gave up 38 points to Katelynn Flaherty, a Michigan guard and Tori Jankoska, Michigan State guard in other games.

What worked for the Buckeyes was having Kelsey Mitchell who scored 25 points shooting 7 of 16 from the field. Mitchell actually scored four of the team's five three-pointers during that game.

Shayla Cooper is the Buckeyes only senior player and she also played well with a season best 18 points at 8 of 10 from the field. Stephanie Mavunga also performed well with a game best of 16 rebounds.

Buckeyes Winter Spring Camp Schedule For 2017
Posted by: Steve - 01-21-2017, 03:04 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Ohio State Football Begins Its Schedule for Winter Camp; Date for Spring Game Announced

Ohio State started its' winter workouts for 2017 on the 17th January, and spring practice will start on the 7th March - concluding with the Spring match on the 15th April.

With not even three weeks elapsed in 2017, the previous season is a thing of the past, as far as Ohio State are concerned.

The most recent incarnation of the Buckeyes started its' winter training in Columbus on Tuesday, under the guidance of Mickey Marotti. The team trained on the indoor field at Woody Hayes Athletic Center, and used the racquetball and basketball courts, because building work was going on elsewhere in the center - including in the weight room.
