Ohio State CB Jyaire Brown from New Orleans

The 6’1” 170lbs 2022 recruit is considered a 4 star prospect, the 16th best cornerback and the 122 best overall player in the country.

Many programs are just getting their 2021 classes started, but Ohio State has a class that is getting full and easily ranked the best in the country. Now they are beginning to look at the next class, making offers, and talking to recruits.

Jyaire Brown to LSU

Many thought he was headed to LSU including Billy Embody who had a crystal ball predication of 62% likely to stay in the South at Louisiana State. He also had offers from Florida State, Arkansas, Colorado, and Alabama. A total of 19 scholarship offers in all.

Brown’s family wanted him to wait a little before deciding but he went with his gut and pulled the trigger on the Buckeyes now.

Brown was born in Cincinnati and wanted to find his way back to the area with his college selection. His family is still a bunch of Buckeye fans and consider the school DBU.

Kerry Coombs was his recruiter at Ohio State and discussed coming back home with Brown. Warren Easton coordinator Munchie LeGaux knew Coombs from when he was a quarterback for the University of Cincinnati and Coombs was on the staff.

This is the first recruit for the Buckeyes in the area in over 15 years. Recruiting a sophomore early can be tricky but the staff must have liked what they see at this point.

What Jyaire Brown Offers Ohio State

Brown is a true cornerback with length that will be able to play press for OSU. His speed also makes him able to play zone when needed. And his physical play is something Ohio State wants in cornerbacks coming in to make tackles.

Coombs feels that Brown will fit well with the culture of the team. The Buckeyes offered Brown a scholarship 5 days prior to him committing. No visits have been made as the current pandemic has made that impossible.

Brown played the entire season as a starter on a state title competing team. He also plays basketball and runs track at Warren Easton. Some have compared Brown to Marshon Lattimore, an Ohio State graduate now playing for the New Orleans Saints.

Jyaire Brown commits to Ohio State, becomes Buckeyes first 2022 verbal

 Bucknell Guard Jimmy Sotos Transfers
Posted by: Steve - 04-10-2020, 06:03 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Ohio State landed Bucknell guard transfer Jimmy Sotos this past week to help their depleted numbers after a number of Buckeye players entered the NCAA transfer portal. Ohio State lost Luther Muhammad, DJ Carton, and Alonzo Gaffney to transfers prior to Sotos selecting them. Sotos had the opportunity to play at Minnesota, Gonzaga, Butler, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Ohio State or Missouri in 2021. He will redshirt his first season in Columbus and will hit the hardwood as starting point guard CJ Walker graduates.

What Jimmy Sotos Offers

Sotos is a tall 6’3” point guard coming out of Illinois, Conant High School. He was born in Elk Grove Village Illinois. He is what Ohio State has looked for in guards the last couple of seasons, a seasoned veteran that will sit a year and then come in as a starter.

Sotos started 77 games at Bucknell in his three years with the Bisons. He averaged 8 points a game with 3.9 assist and 3.4 boards. He was 37.1% from behind the arc his third year in college.

Why Ohio State?

Sotos got along well with Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann and Ryan Pedon. Bucknell fans were a little surprised with the news of his transfer, but he feels this is the next step in his college career. He was only in the transfer portal for 3 days when his transfer to OSU was announced on his twitter account. Sotos felt that he could compete at a high level after having good games against Syracuse, Ohio State, TCU, Penn State, and North Carolina while at Bucknell.

With in-person visits banned during the COVID 19 pandemic, Sotos had to make a transfer decision without a visit. He relied on Zoom meetings and online research to determine the best location for his next two years.

Highlights: Bucknell at Ohio State | Big Ten Basketball

Five Star Running Back TreVeyon Henderson from Hopewell Virginia
Posted by: Steve - 03-29-2020, 03:14 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

A 5’11” 195 lbs. prospect, Ryan Day has a great piece of his 2021 class settled tonight.

Considered the top player in the country by many, his motivation comes from his desire to help his hard working mother.

Running Back TreVeyon Henderson

Henderson was great on the field last year, winning a state championship with 2,424 yards and 45 touchdowns, as well as in the classroom, earning a 4.0 grade point average. He averaged 12.2 yards/carry during his junior season.

Henderson is the current Gatorade Player of the Year in Virginia. He went from being a defensive back prospect as a sophomore to a 20 lbs. heavier running back with better speed as a junior.

He is able to change direction quickly and increase speed while breaking away from entire backfields.

TreVeyon Henderson Visits

Henderson was unable to visit Ohio State as he had planned in April due to the world-wide pandemic (the NCAA on-campus and off-campus visit suspension), but felt great about the coaches and the program at OSU. He mentions running backs coach Tony Alford as a reason that he feels very comfortable with the team today. Expectations were for Henderson to take his time with recruiting, but all that changed with the visit restrictions. Al Washington and Ryan Day were also pivotal in Henderson’s recruitment.

Many are comparing Henderson to JK Dobbins, who also never visited Ohio State before committing. He grew up watching Ezekiel Elliott and the Buckeyes during their great 2014 and 2015 seasons.

TreVeyon Henderson: 5-star running back commits to Ohio State

Evan Pryor Joins OH State Buckeyes
Posted by: Steve - 03-22-2020, 03:44 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Because of Pryor, Ohio State has the most ESPN Junior 300 commitments in all FBS programs. Which is more than Florida, Clemson, Oregon, Notre Dame, and North Carolina. Pryor is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound back from from Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina.

Some Struggles for Ohio State

Pryor has became the 13th commitment to the Ohio State roster already locked and loaded for the 2021 roster and is the first RB to join the group. The buckeyes entered the cycle of recruit after missing the previous class and desperatly needed some top tier running backs that is where they got Evan Pryor. They are still on some good guys that are the No.2 and No. 3 which is TreVeyon Henderson and Donovan Edwards.

Some Issues With Evan Pryor

One big problem with Pryor is his blocking ability. Because Pryor is so used to using his passing ability and usually in the pocket and getting better leverage. In the film of him he is using his upper body to block which is not going to help him against the big ten line backers. He will need to work on his lower body strength and using a block only using lower body strength.

Evan Pryor Highlights 2021 4 Star Running Back OSU Commit

His Relationship With The Other OSU Players

Ohio State was unexpected for his choice because his sister went to Penn State. But he thought that it felt like a family and he loved the people. Due to the voice chat he became friends with his future teammates and he thought they were great. In a few days he is going to actually come to Columbus. He has already met the team in Columbus and just like the voice chat he felt like a family. He is very exited to come to OSU and wants to find out about his new home.

Ohio State Spring Game 2020 Cancelled
Posted by: Steve - 03-17-2020, 01:57 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

All over the U.S and across the wider world, sporting events are being cancelled and postponed due to concerns about the spread of the deadly coronavirus COVID 19. Already huge sporting competitions and iconic events like the La Liga soccer tournament, MLS games, and the remainder of the NBA season have felt the consequences of this virus. One of the most recent sporting traditions to fall victim to the Covid 19 pandemic was the Ohio State Spring Game.

The spring game is normally a joyous occasion for fans and athletes alike, where the best college football talent is on display. So, that being said, it was with a heavy heart that authorities at Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan have cancelled this long standing tradition. The spring game also acts as a launch pad for new players and helps to get fans and players hyped up and excited for the upcoming season.

The Ohio State Spring game was due to be played between the Scarlet and the Gray on Saturday April 11th. College authorities decided to make and publicize the decision well in advance to minimize the disruption to fans lives. The Ohio State university have also put in place other sporting limitations in response to the coronavirus outbreak. In a recent statement they announced that although they would continue to host inter-college sports events, only the athletes themselves and their immediate family would be allowed to attend. The move may be partly in response to the Governor of Ohio calling for a halt to 'mass gatherings' of people.

This year the 2020 Ohio State Buckeyes team will be playing in the top flight NCAA Division I football league. The Ohio State team has a number of important games upcoming, including outings against Penn State, Bowling Green and Nebraska among others. This will be the 131st season for this successful collegiate outfit, and no doubt players like Thayer Munford, Myers and Wyatt Davis will be hoping that they can capture some of the same success they have tasted in the past.

The annual Spring Game is generally viewed as an excellent showcase for upcoming talent and some of the most highly tipped players in the Buckeyes team for the 2020 season are Harvey Miller and Jean-Baptiste. Rest assured though, these fine players will have plenty of chances to show their talent when the season kicks off in earnest in September.

Ohio State Buckeyes 2020 College Football Schedule Preview

The team is widely considered to have good chances in the upcoming season, and will definitely be hoping to improve on last years performances, which helped them to win the Big 10 East division. There are some very significant personnel changes, but they will definitely be helped by the fact that their head coach Ryan Day will be returning to lead them in the 2020 season. Day has already built a solid relationship with this group of impressive college athletes, and will surely be hoping to channel that dynamic to victory in their upcoming games.

In summary, the 2020 Spring Game featuring Ohio State is another example of a much anticipated sporting event being cancelled in an effort to contain the deadly coronavirus. We can only hope that sporting schedules will return to normal in good time.

The 2020 NFL Combine kicked off this past Sunday and is well underway. The workouts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN will come to a close on Monday, March 2nd. If you are looking for an update on the performances of former Ohio State players in the combine then you've come to the right place. A prospect grade of 8.0 is considered the perfect prospect and a grade of 5.0 is reserved for players that have a chance to be in an NFL training camp.

Ohio State Players In the 2020 NFL Combine

1. Damon Arnette, CB

Prospect Grade: 6.19

CB Damon Arnette has experience as both an inside and an outside corner. Arnette has shown that his greatest strength is his run support physicality. He has good upper body strength to defeat blocks. Arnette has NFL size and is very skilled at riding receivers with pressure and strength. He's also displayed a lack of burst at the combine which could limit him to being only a zone coverage cornerback.

2. J.K. Dobbins, RB

Prospect Grade: 6.38

Dobbins possesses solid contact balance to absorb hits and keep going. He has excellent vision once he has reached the second level of the defense. His vision at the line of scrimmage, however, is below average. What he does a great job of is running low to the ground and keeping his pads square. J.K. is effective at dropping and finishing runs with pop.

3. Jordan Fuller, S

Prospect Grade: 5.88

The bruising defensive back plays downhill and cuts off angles well. Fuller is agile and makes quick alterations to pursuit angles. One of his biggest selling points is that he has great leadership qualities. The safety is not fleet of foot when backpedaling. He lacks the range and long speed as a free safety. Often he has problems with man coverage.

4. Davon Hamilton, DT

Prospect Grade: 5.98

An athletic 4-3 defensive tackle, Hamilton sees blockers movements and reacts quickly. Hamilton has good feet and strength to set a strong edge. He has a great burst off the line and handles double teams relatively well. Davon is an above-average tackler. He doesn't shed blocks well. Additionally, he doesn't play with enough length to create advantages.

5. Malik Harrison, LB

Prospect Grade: 6.36

Harrison can play all LB spots. An aggressive downhill terror, he makes plays near the line. Malik uses his length and speed to leverage his gap. He's skilled at daring quarterbacks to use touch and throw over the top. Harrison is also a strong presence on special teams. His instinct and play recognition in the middle is average. He has limitations in man coverage.

6. K.J. Hill, WR

Prospect Grade: 6.17

Hill runs detail-oriented routes. He disguises his route intentions well. The wide out is willing to work in the middle of the field. He is not very explosive or dynamic with the ball.

7. Jonah Jackson, OL

Prospect Grade: 5.87

Jackson is flexible enough to play both center and guard. He possesses good width and lateral slides in pass protection. Jonah plays too tall when run blocking and can't sink to create good leverage. Has issues maintaining body control.

8. Austin Mack, WR

Prospect Grade: 5.87

Mack has NFL size and strength. He is intelligent at running routes and uses his hands well to free from jams. Mack works away from coverage with crisp out routes. He is not durable and is considered injury prone as he has missed significant time the past two years.

9. Jeff Okudah, CB

Prospect Grade: 7.15

A highly driven and self-motivated prospect, Okudah's measurements and speed are top of the line. He is great at crowding receivers at the point of release. Jeff possesses elite foot quickness. His instincts are average and needs to improve route anticipations.

10. Binjimen Victor, WR

Prospect Grade: 5.50

Victor utilizes long strides and separates well. His mechanics in the air are smooth on catch attempts. His release is ineffective though and he struggles to re-accelerate after slowing down.

Chase Young: Former Buckeyes superstar fields questions at NFL Combine

Analysis on Recent Four Star Commit Mike Hall to Ohio State

The approximately month-long NCAA football recruiting dead period has gotten underway as of this past Sunday. Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeye's were able to capitalize just before the downtime by securing a verbal commitment from a four-star defensive tackle from Streetsboro, Ohio, Mike Hall. What can fans expect from Hall as a member of Ohio State's 2021 class?

Mike Hall on Rivals

With six of the Buckeye's 10 commitments for 2021 residing in the state of Ohio, the commitment of Mike Hall further entrenches Ohio State as having the No. 1 ranked recruiting class. Hall is listed at 6'3", 290 lbs. and grew up in Northeast Ohio. According to Rivals.com, he is the 75th ranked player in the country, 6th ranked defensive tackle in the country, and 4th ranked player in the state of Ohio, respectively.

Mike Hall Scholarship Offers

Mike Hall has been feverishly sought after throughout his recruitment process from some of the most successful programs in college football. The list of schools that recruited him included Georgia, Penn State, Arizona St., Florida State, Indiana, Kent State, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia. Hall was offered scholarships from all of Akron, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kentucky, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Toledo according to ESPN.

Why Select Ohio State

When the larger than life Hall had a sit down with head coach Ryan Day and defensive line coach Larry Johnson Saturday afternoon, he was convinced beyond a reasonable doubt Ohio State is where he wanted to be. In a recent interview, Mike Hall was asked what he liked about Ohio State and what helped him make the decision. This is what he had to say regarding that as told to Jeremy Birmingham of Lettermen-Row:

"It has always been a childhood dream of mine to play for Ohio State. I was just impressed and in awe of the atmosphere on campus and all the facilities. The coaches and recruiters are really great people that want their players to succeed in life beyond football. Coach Day is an influential person that makes you feel at home." Hall said.

One respected and highly acclaimed scout, went out on a limb to proclaim Mike Hall as the greatest defensive tackle prospect from the state of Ohio over the last decade. The Streetsboro high school standout's most glaring strengths are undoubtedly getting off of the ball and pushing through the line. A dominant and bruising force, Hall admitted in the same interview he gets more of a thrill from rushing the passer than stuffing the run. Before taking the field at the next level, a couple of weaknesses he could focus on improving are hand placement and hip technique.

Mike Hall on decision to commit to Oho State, plans as a recruiter for Buckeyes

What Mike Hall Offers Ohio State

A few reasons Mike Hall is expected to be a great college football player include the fact he has a high motor, and never takes plays off. What impresses coaches most are his quick feet (he moves extraordinarily well for a player his size). With all of the talent Ohio State has locked up during this year's season of recruiting, the Buckeye's already have their core nucleus of elite players when they suit up for the 2021 season.

Information from Rivals.com, ESPN, and the Lettermen-row YouTube channel was used in this article

Coach Kerry Coombs The Bull Goes Home and Recruits Martinez
Posted by: Steve - 01-31-2020, 06:03 PM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Coaching in only a shirt during a snow storm in Minnesota? Body guard for Ohio fans when Jabrill Peppers loses his temper? Well before you decide, keep in mind the best is yet to come. Yes, the Red Bull is back in Ohio’s Red Nation.

Kerry Coombs in the NFL

After a two year stint with the Titans in the NFL and a run deep into the playoffs and while OSU held its breath and their phone calls to any other coaching prospects, they were able to bring Coombs back home as Defensive Coordinator for the 2020 campaign. Coach Coombs proved his point to the NFL and himself. He belongs in football and he belongs wherever he wants to be in football.

Jeff Hafley Leaves For Boston College

Looks like that is back at OSU after a 15-1 season under new head coach, Ryan Day, Ohio is already in the driver's seat for the 2020 BCS season. The Buckeyes had a big hole to fill with DC Jeff Hefley moving on to head coach at Boston College. January 20, 2020 Buckeye nation dreams came true as Kerry Coombs more than took up the open space.

When Kerry Coombs came to Ohio State

Since his 2004 Ohio State Championship as head coach of Colerain High School, where the lifelong Ohioan also is a graduate, Coombs has been synonymous with Ohio football. With success at the University of Cincinnati under Brian Kelly and Butch Jones, Coach Coombs already had the eye of now Ohio State legend Urban Meyer in 2012. Coach Meyer saw not only a great football coach but also an outstanding people person. Amazing with players on the field, Coach Coombs also had a talent for recruiting. Coombs quickly set the standard at OSU bringing in top quality prospects, setting the tone at OSU, and then sending great talent straight into the NFL. Coach Coombs sent 5 first round picks into the NFL from 2014 to 2018.

Recruiting Cameron Martinez

Coach Coombs wasted no time hitting the recruiting circuit immediately and heading to Muskegon, Michigan to the home of Cameron Martinez. A four star prospect who had verbally committed to OSU, Martinez had a four year varsity run as Quarterback for Muskegon and a high school record of 48-4. Martinez is seen as a Division I defensive back, wideout prospect with a clear football future. This is a cautious and pragmatic athlete with 29 scholarship offers, and with changes at OSU and a few weeks to decide where to ink his talent he is in no hurry to tie himself down. Penn State, Norte Dame, Boston College? Decisions, Decisions.

Cameron Martinez: Dynamic Michigan athlete commits to Ohio State

Buckeye Sam Hart Tight End from Aurora Colorado
Posted by: Steve - 01-08-2020, 10:00 AM - Forum: Football and Basketball - No Replies

Tight End Sam Hart from Cherokee Trail HS recently committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes for 2021. His quick commitment is somewhat of a surprise as 2021 prospects could not talk to schools until September 2020. "Why Wait, it feels right to commit to Ohio State." he told reporters when making an announcement. Hart is the 15th ranked TE in the country, 4th in Colorado overall. He had 22 scholarship offers including Penn State, LSU, Oregon, and Notre Dame.

When it came to committing he called coach Tony Alford and said he was ready to be a Buckeye. Then he called tight ends coach Kevin Wilson and head coach Ryan Day. Everyone was "super pumped up" Hart said.

Sam Harts College Visits

Hart has taken two visits to Columbus, one during the Penn State game. He was recruited by Kevin Wilson (TE coach) and Tony Alford (who handles the Colorado area). On the most recent visit, his family drove around Columbus and liked everything there is to do. He thought the campus itself was beautiful. Hart hasn't met any kids from 2021 yet. But he did meet a 2022 tackle prospect on campus. He liked Roosters near Ohio State for a meal choice. His high school coach is from Ohio State and recommended the spot.

What Sam Hart Liked about the Buckeyes

The coaches at OSU stood out and talked to him a lot during his recruitment. No other school talked to him as much as Ohio State. And It felt like home when he was on campus. He likes that the room at Ohio State for TEs in 2021 is wide-open. He also feels that he will get to player early if he works hard. Even with a 2nd Tight End in the same year class he can get on the field.

He felt Ohio State was a better fit than Notre Dame, that OSU would make him a better person and football player. He also liked that TEs from Ohio State go to the NFL even though they don't get too many passes. OSU Tight Ends learn blocking and the full role in an offense he reported.

Look at his stats. 44 tackles, 16.5 sacks, and 6 forced fumbles. Not to mention that those 16.5 sacks are a school record that he achieved despite missing two games this year due to suspension. This has been one of the most dominant seasons for defensive player college football has seen. There's a reason why he's a candidate and a lot of people think he can win despite only one defensive player has ever won the Heisman.

He and his other candidates will be at the PlayStation Theater in New York City. It has been held there since 2005. Here are the other candidates that will be there and their stats:

Joe Burrow, QB for LSU
77.9 cmp%, 4,715 YDS, 48 TD, 6 INT

Justin Fields, QB for Ohio State
67.5 CMP%, 2,953 YDS, 40 TD, 1 INT

Jalen Hurts, QB for Oklahoma
71.8 CMP%, 3,634 YDS, 32 TD, 7 INT

All Offensive Players for Heisman

Every single candidate excluding Chase Young is an offensive player. Although many believe he deserves the award, in today’s age of football, people are big fans of explosive plays on offense. Don't get me wrong, people love seeing a player disrupt the offense with their abilities, but many people prefer an offensive shootout over great defensive play. This is why the past two Heisman winners have been from Oklahoma as they are known for great offense, but terrible defense. This year, like many before it, is to see who the best QB was by looking at their stats and how their teams are playing.

Joe Burrow

His team is #1 in the nation and my favorite to win the Heisman. He has massively improved from last year. Many people believed that if they had a decent QB, they would've beaten Alabama last year. What happens this year? LSU goes into Tuscaloosa and dominated Alabama because of their great offense. The thing is, Joe Burrow was the QB both years. To go from being considered an average to a below-average player, to the Heisman Favorite, shows how much he can improve and it showed in the SEC Championship Game as he dominated Georgia.

Justin Fields

Speaking of Georgia, Justin used to play at UGA last year. He was the back-up to Jake Fromm and barely got any action and decided to transfer. All he has done this year is show UGA and everyone in the country why he was the #1 recruited player out of high school. His chance to win the Heisman is hurt by the amazing year Joe Burrow is having as well as having a teammate like Chase Young.
