Jesse Mirco from Perth Australia will be joining the 2021 Ohio State class as a scholarship punter. He made the announcement on Twitter yesterday saying that he was honored to be a part of the school.

Ohio State Offer

The 23 year old Mirco currently plays Australian football. It took him 4 months to learn to punt in an American football style prior to getting the OSU offer.

Current Ohio State punter Drue Chrisman will be playing his final season at OSU this fall so having a new punter on scholarship is important for the program in 2021. Chrisman is a 5th year graduate.

Mirco will visit Columbus this Fall to see a game at the Horseshoe, he has never been to Ohio. But he only spoke to the Buckeye coaches about playing in America and isn’t interested in any other program now. He met up with head coach Ryan Day, Mark Pantoni, and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti on a video chat last week.

Ohio State 2021 Class

Mirco becomes a part of the top top class in the country for 2021 in the Buckeyes class. He joins La Salle kicker Jake Seibert as the two new specialist coming onboard.

Prokick Australia

Prokick Australia football coaches John Smith and Nathan Chapman were instrumental in getting Mirco a spot on the Buckeyes roster. They have been transitioning athletes in Australia for 4 years to become college and NFL punters with some success.

Ohio State coach Matt Barnes contacted Prokick Australia to see who they had available in the pipeline. A pipeline that has produced over 135 special teams players at college football programs across the country. Cameron Johnston came out of the program to join Ohio State previously and is now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. They recommend Mirco right-away.

When Johnson came along, Ohio State was worried as their recruited punter Johnny Townsend went to Florida at the last minute leaving them without someone to punt. Kerry Coombs found Johnson and for four years he was an outstanding player on the field. This time the Buckeyes had a plan and went to Australia to find their next four year starter.
