Get Ready for the Battle of the Beasts, UFC 116!
#1

Brock Lesnar

Finally, we no longer have to wait! The UFC Heavyweight Championship will be put to test when Brock Lesnar makes his long awaited return to the Ocagon to defend his Heavyweight UFC title against interim belt holder Shane Carwin. This fight certainly has the ingredients to become the best Mixed Martial Arts fight of 2010! Carwin and Lesnar have both been unstoppable in their previous fights. With Carwin destroying his previous 12 opponents in less than a round and Lesnar has had phenomenal victories over Randy Couture and Frank Mir. So, let’s break down the number and find out where the fight will be determined.

No one will ever deny that Brock Lesnar is a huge and very powerful looking fighter, but has he met his match coming up in this next fight against Shane Carwin? Brock who is 6’3″ Weight: 265 lbs. Age 30, is a massive MMA fighter but then so is Shane Carwin who is 6’2″ Weight: 265 lbs. Age: 35. So unlike his previous matches against Randy Couture and Frank Mir, Brock will be on an even playing field when it comes to size. In his previous 3 fights he has used his size as the primary weapon. However, this won’t be possible when he is fighting Carwin since they will be evenly matched in physical size and strength.

Brock has also relied heavily on his wrestling skills to win his fights. He is known for his powerful wrestling style in which he won the 2000 NCAA wrestling championship as a heavyweight. However, not be outdone Carwin is very tough in this area also, Carwin is a NCAA II Wrestling Heavyweight National Champion in 1999. So, as far as wrestling skills they are relatively similar also.

So what will determine the Heavyweight winner of UFC 116? One key distinction in this matchup is that Carwin has knocked out the previous 6 fighters within the first round. This could be the key to a Carwin win, since Lesnar tends to leave himself open for an uppercut by leaning forward on his punches. This tends to leave Lesnar open to an uppercut which can be Carwin’s 7th knockout in a row.

So, even if this fight is short it is bound to be an incredible flurry of activity in the opening few seconds. So whether you watch the remainder of the UFC 116 card on July 3rd you should definitely watch this battle of the beasts.
